KwaZulu-Natal North Coast Touring Map South Africa
North of Durban stretches the "North Coast" of KwaZulu-Natal. It is a
semi-tropical paradise adjoining the warm and idyllic Indian Ocean. The North
Coast road stretching from Durban to the Mozambique border is characterised by
the world famous iSimangiliso Wetland Park (previously Greater St Lucia Wetland
Park) and Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park. It was in this park that the fate of the Black
Rhino in South Africa was turned around from one of almost certain extinction to
a once more thriving population of Black Rhinos.
The iSimangiliso Wetland Park is a World Heritage site. This amazing wetland park extends to some 5kms offshore and a shoreline length of some 155 kms. This amazing eco system consists of dune forests, wetlands, mangrove swamps, fresh and saltwater lakes, and even dry savannah.
The iSimangiliso Wetland Park is one of the most important eco-tourism sites in the world. Lake St Lucia is a breeding ground for many species of aquatic species and is the largest estuarine system in the whole of Africa.
This map also covers the KwaZulu-Natal interior... an interior steeped in history and made famous by the Zulu wars against the British. It is an area visited by countless thousands every year who want to revisit the historical battle sites
