Magaliesberg, Pilansberg and Waterberg Touring Map South Africa
MAP DISCONTINUED
The Magaliesberg nature area is in very close proximity to Johannesburg and adjacent to the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage site. It includes the region around the Hartebeespoort Dam. The Magaliesberg mountains are some of the oldest in the world having been formed some 2,400 million years ago. The area abounds with nature trails, small rivers and secluded rocky areas.
The Pilansberg mountain range dominates a region around an extinct volcano crater. Concentric rings of hills surround the great open landscape making up the region. The Pilansberg is best known for its proximity to Sun City and the Pilansberg Game Reserve was re-populated by animals brought in from all over South Africa. Today it is home to the Big 5 and an important tourist area.

The area surrounding the Waterberg Mountain Range is an immense storehouse of cultural, archaeological and biological diversity. It is a breathtakingly beautiful area that is well worth a visit for anyone who loves nature, history and cultural experiences. To make it easy for visitors to explore this region, a dedicated group of individuals has, with the support of local and international funding, created an exciting number of routes within the Waterberg, called The Waterberg Meander... extract from http://www.waterbergbiosphere.org/
