GPS coordinates on the Maps
The GPS coordinates written in this map consist of a latitude and longitude that can be inputted into a GPS receiver to aid navigation. When planning a detailed off road trip in South Africa it is strongly recommended that a GPS be bought or hired. These maps cannot be used to lift grid co-ordinates. Maps of at least 1: 50000 are required for this purpose and even then care needs to be taken.
The most practical approach to gather accurate GPS points is to use Google Maps.
These maps shows GPS coordinates of intersections, towns, fuel points, resorts and points of interest. These GPS points are provided as a service for map readers. As stated it is always best to double check co-ordinates for off road adventures in unfamiliar territory.
