Simon's Town, False Bay Hiking Map: Overlooking the Home of South Africa's Navy

Here it is at last!
The map that completes the Table Mountain National Park series. It's a
DOUBLE-SIDED map, two maps for the price of one!
Simon's Town is named after Governor Simon van der Stel, who was responsible for
surveying False Bay in 1687. Simon's Bay was noted as as a sheltered winter
anchorage away from the south westerly storms of the Cape. In 1741, after many
shipwrecks had occurred in Table Bay, the then Dutch East India Company decided
to use Simon's Town as the place to anchor their ships during winter.
The development of the Simon's Town was slow because it was difficult to access
overland from Cape Town itself. Nevertheless development did occur in terms of
ship provisioning and repair. A three-gabled hospital was built in addition to
houses.
Simon's Town grew more rapidly once the Royal Naval established a base there
around 1806. Admiralty House goes back to 1814.
Napoleon Bonaparte was held in Simon's Town on his way to exile on St Helena
island where he died in 1821.

What other people have said about this map...
"Many tourist maps available in South Africa are printed and produced overseas. They are drawn by people who have never stepped on African soil, who would not know Cape Town from Calitzdorp or Nyanga from Knysna."... Peter Slingsby
